What is it

The construction of one precast concrete trapped ROAD gully — a 450 mm diameter, 750 mm deep (70 L) gully pot with a Class D400 ductile grating & frame, set complete and priced per nr (each). A road gully is the trapped surface-water inlet a drainage BoQ measures separately from the pipe runs. The rate carries the whole operation:

Excavated & surrounded — the pit is machine-dug and a C20/25 concrete bed & surround placed to the gully pot.
Set — the precast trapped gully pot set to level on the bed, and the D400 ductile grating & frame set to finished road level on the surround.
Backfilled — the gully backfilled & compacted around the surround, ready for the connecting run.

3 key cost drivers

Gully size & depth

A deeper 450 × 900 mm (95 L) gully needs more precast, more concrete surround and a slower pit dig than the 450 × 750 mm default; a large yard gully more again. Size and depth are the biggest drivers of the per-nr rate.

Cover / grating class

A trafficked carriageway needs a heavy Class D400 ductile grating (the priced default); a footway (C250) or pedestrian area (B125) takes a lighter, cheaper grating. Location also sets how much dig support and reinstatement the pit needs. Described drivers, priced by swapping the grating and size.

London and the South East typically add around 20% to labour.
