What is it

The supply and laying of a single skin of 100 mm dense aggregate blockwork of 7.3 N/mm² grade to a vertical wall, priced per m² of wall face. Dense aggregate blocks are the strongest and hardest-faced 100 mm block, used for load-bearing, below-DPC and party walls where a durable face matters. Two block finishes are priced:

Standard — a common-face block, to be plastered, rendered, painted or dry-lined; the usual choice and the default rate.
Fair-faced — a selected exposed-face (paint-grade) block, laid to a finished line to be left visible; a dearer block, laid more slowly.

Openings, returns, piers and reveals slow the gang and add cutting waste. It is a key driver of the rate.

Block finish

A fair-faced block, left exposed, is a dearer selected-face unit and is laid more slowly than a standard block that will be plastered or painted. It is a key driver of both material cost and laying speed.

Location

London and the South East typically add around 20% to labour.
